Rheology Additives

Rheology modifiers are added to drywall plasterboards to enhance their texture, consistency, and application properties. Several types of rheology modifiers are used in drywall plasterboards, including cellulose ethers, vinyl acetate-based copolymers, and modified starches.

Modified corn, potato, wheat, and tapioca starches are examples of modified starches that can be used as rheology modifiers in drywall plasterboards. These starches have been chemically modified to improve their functional properties and enhance their performance in drywall applications.

Modified starches work by interacting with the other components of the drywall plasterboard formulation, such as water and gypsum powder. They can absorb moisture and swell, creating a thick, viscous solution. Modified starches also improve the overall consistency and texture of the plasterboard, providing a smooth finish.
