ATH (Aluminum Trihydrate)
-
Physical modification of plastics can be done by incorporating fire-resistant fillers into the plastic matrix to make it more flame-resistant.
ATH (Aluminum Trihydrate): ATH is a mineral filler that releases water when heated, which cools down the plastic and reduces the risk of ignition. ATH is commonly used in PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), PE (Polyethylene), and PP (Polypropylene) plastics.

Aluminum Trihydrate is a mineral-based flame retardant that releases water molecules when exposed to heat. The released water molecules cool down the material and dilute the flammable gases, preventing or slowing the spread of fire. Aluminum Trihydrate also acts as a smoke suppressant and can reduce the number of toxic gases released during a fire.
In addition to their fire-retardant properties, these additives can also improve the physical properties of the added materials. For example, Aluminum Trihydrate can improve plastics’ stiffness and impact resistance.
